The Comfort of Orthopaedic Footwear in Daily Life

orthopaedic footwear

There was a time when orthopaedic footwear was specifically meant for anyone with severe medical issues. In recent times though, young adults increasingly are affected by some sort of issue having to do with the foot. Typically, young adults tend to work out regularly resulting in instances of some sort of foot disorder which of late has been increasing unabated.

In other words, there is a direct correlation between the exercise regimen of young adults and their foot disorder. Besides, foot related issues can be attributed to ill-fitting footwear too, which led to the emergence of an orthopaedic shoe club.

The most commonly occurring foot-related issue ranging from corns and calluses as a result of putting on ill-fitting shoes to bunions, a foot deformity causing the big toe joint to protrude are gender-based issues of the foot affecting the womenfolk for the most part.

Plantar fasciitis and Flat Feet or Fallen Arches

Plantar fasciitis is yet another common cause of foot pain where the ligament that connects the heel bone to the toes is sprained or strained which may hurt the heel while walking.

Government statistics would have us believe that cases of plantar fasciitis in increasing numbers can be attributed to an equally increasing number of people following a workout regimen. Orthopaedic shoes are essential for those who have flat feet also known as fallen arches which may run in the family for generations.

As an upshot to flat feet or fallen arches, spine alignment can be potentially affected. However, with adequate support, the risk can be mitigated or even averted. Diabetics however, run the risk of edema or swollen feet.

The look and feel of orthopaedic footwear are easily distinguishable as it can support the foot’s structure including its hi-tech insole, footbed, midsole and sole. Feet measurement is recommended prior to purchasing a pair as size guidelines are specific to a brand or vary from brand to brand. If the length in centimeters and the width in millimeters are known though then that is all it takes. For width measurements, most brands use the letter D denoting a wide fit.

These days, even the well-known orthopaedic brands have upped the ante or are uncompromising when it comes to style quotient. With people being spoilt for choice when it comes to orthopaedic footwear, there could very well be a time when all major footwear brands would be orthopaedic.
