What is an orthosis?
An orthosis is a support worn on the body. It can hold a weak joint steady, protect an injury while it heals, keep a limb in a better position, or help you walk more safely. Some are made to a cast or scan of your own limb in the CuraFoot lab; others are ready-made and fitted and adjusted for you.
How it works

Assessment and measurement
A clinician examines the limb, how you stand and walk, and what the orthosis needs to do, then takes measurements, a cast or a scan.

Made in our lab
Custom orthoses are made in the CuraFoot lab from your cast or scan.

Fitting and follow-up
You try the orthosis on, it is adjusted until it fits well, and you learn how to put it on and look after it.

Braces, splints and orthoses: your questions
What is an AFO?
An ankle foot orthosis is a brace that fits inside the shoe and up the back of the leg. It supports the ankle and foot, most often for foot drop, and helps lift the toes as you walk.
Do I need a doctor’s note?
You can book directly. If a doctor has recommended an orthosis, bring their note and any reports or X-rays.
Can children wear orthoses?
Yes. CuraFoot makes splints and orthoses for children, including for clubfoot and knock knees, and checks them regularly as the child grows.
