What does a sports podiatrist do?

A podiatrist (foot doctor) who works with people in sport finds the cause of foot, ankle and lower-leg pain, checks how you move, and treats it with insoles, footwear advice, braces and exercise, so you can keep training.

How do I stop foot pain after running?

Ease off the distance and speed for a few days and check your shoes. If the pain keeps coming back, gets worse or makes you limp, have it checked: the cause is often in how the foot moves or in the training load.

Do I need a gait analysis?

If running or walking keeps causing pain in your feet, shins, knees or back, a gait analysis shows how your feet and legs move and helps find the cause.

Can custom insoles help runners?

They can, when the problem comes from how your feet take your weight. Your podiatrist will tell you after the assessment whether insoles are likely to help, and design them for the shoes you run in.

Do you see children who play sport?

Yes. Children and teenagers who play sport are welcome; a parent or guardian comes with them.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. Patients referred by their doctor, coach or physiotherapist are welcome too.
